AIMC established in January 2009 and developed CIC in Gedabek region with the purpose for the local community to develop social engagement and internet skills. CIC was granted eleven computers, and has a spacious and newly renovated computer room. The Centre has taught three-month computer courses to more than 600 students until now.
AIMC signed a contract with the IREX organization in August 2010 to broaden the selection of services to the Community. These services are all free-of-charge and include the following:
- Free access to internet for all citizens;
- Rendering of legal assistance;
- Printing, copying and scanning of documents;
- Cooperation with various organizations;
- Educational trainings
CIC hosted several events dedicated to the occupation of Azerbaijani cities which resulted from the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as well as the 50th anniversary of Chingiz Mustafayev – Journalist and National Hero of Azerbaijan, and celebration of the Holy month of Ramadan with the participation of Hajji Yusif Agayev, Chief Imam of Gedabek region.
IREX held a training course in Gedabek CIC with the participation of 25 local residents in the framework of the “New Media and Alternative Public Relations” project. The participants were instructed on media schools and ways of applying alternative PR. The main goal of the project is to instruct civil society activists on how to use the new media techniques, inter alia, video blogging skills.
Video seminars dedicated to 92nd anniversary of liberation of Baku with the guest speaker Mr. Mashadi Ali, Teacher of History and National Music Day with the guest speaker Ms. Fazilya Mammadova from Culture and Tourism Ministry as well as informative meetings devoted to Oil Industry Workers – Our Natural Resources and “Twitter-Social Network-ways of usage” were conducted by newspaper journalists for groups of students, NGO representatives and CIC.
In a campaign to advertise CIC in Gedabek region, presentations about it were given in the Secondary School #1, Gedabek Chess School, and for representatives of NGO “Gedabek City Social Development”, as well as for employees of Gedabek City’s Culture and Tourism, Education, Youth and Sports Departments and Gedabek City’s Executive Authority.
CIC Administrator participated at the first ever in Azerbaijan training event “Social Innovation Camp Azerbaijan” (SI Camp), which was held in Baku on September 18-19, 2010. SI Camp is about solving social challenges in new ways – by bringing together ideas and digital tools to create web-based innovations in just 48 hours. The SI Camp will gather participants from different professions – designers, social entrepreneurs, web developers, marketing, legal, advertising, social needs experts and other specialists from Baku and regions of Azerbaijan to work on an idea of a potential social start-up that can make a change and compete for a prize. Camp will finish with a competition to decide on a winning project, which receives further start-up project.
CIC Administrator also participated in IREX CIC Project Staff retreat.
Computer training courses included Computer, Internet and email basics, MS Word, Exell, Social Media networks and research practice for different targeted groups – 4 groups/34 people.
